FAQ

Where can I place a skip?

If a skip is to be placed on your driveway, we recommend that any manholes are covered prior to delivery. We would remind you that a fully loaded vehicle can weigh upto 18tonne and whilst every care will be taken by our driver, we cannot be responsible for damage if instructed to place a skip on your drive. Special care should be taken with block paving drives.
If you have any concerns please ring us for advice. It may be that the skips would be better being sited on the road or a grass verge.

Do I need a skip permit?

Any skip placed on a public highway requires a permit from the council. CWSH will arrange a skip permit for you, along with lighting on the skip to comply with regulations, though you will need to meet the cost of doing so. Each council sets their own rate so please ring for current prices. Please be aware that a permit will only last for 2 weeks in Wirral and 1 month in Cheshire West & Chester.

How much access does the skip wagon need?

The skip wagon (the vehicle that delivers the skip) needs at least an 8 and a half feet wide gap to unload the skip. Also, consider if there are any cables or low hanging trees over the area which could restrict access.

What size skip should I get?

Skips must not be overloaded. The contents in the skip must not exceed the fill level. This isn’t our own rule to get you to hire a bigger skip – it’s the law! The reason for this is that although we net every skip before moving it. If the skip is overloaded Items could still dislodge and cause injury to pedestrians or motorists.
It may also be too heavy for the wagon to legally lift.

What can I put in a skip?

Environmental legislation forbids these things in skips: tyres, asbestos, aerosols, gas canisters, full paint cans, fridges or freezers. Also, a fire must never be started in a skip.

How long can I hire a skip for?

Mini and Midi skips – 7 days (after which hire charges apply)
Builder skips – 14 days (after which hire charges apply)
Roll on roll off – By prior arrangement (please contact us to discuss your requirements)
Please bear in mind that if you are placing a skip on a public highway, you will need a permit which lasts up to two weeks. If this will cause a problem for you, please contact us for advice

When can you deliver the skip?

Our delivery times are Monday to Friday 7.30am to 4.30pm and Saturdays 7.30am to midday. We can arrange specific drop off and collection times so please let us know if you require this. We can usually offer a same day service, but would suggest you give us 24 hours notice to ensure your requirements can be met.

How can I pay for my skip hire?

Payment including VAT is payable on delivery and can be in the form of cash, cheque or card (we will take card details over the phone).

What happens to my waste once the skip has been taken away?

We aim to recycle up to 95% of the contents of a skip. The waste is brought to our own recycling centre where it is meticulously sorted to extract all recyclable materials. We send only the minimum amount of waste to landfill.

How do I know my waste won’t be fly tipped?

Cheshire Waste Skip Hire operates a full Waste Transfer Station at Backford and we hold a current Waste Carriers Licence. Both licences are strictly monitored and controlled by the Environment Agency.

Cheshire skip hire, waste management, aggregates and recycling

Cheshire Waste Skip Hire is a family run organisation with a friendly, experienced team of operatives who make waste management a pleasure rather than a chore! We don’t claim to be the biggest, but some say we’re the best. We’re a specialist company that provides a personal service based on many years’ experience in waste management.

Cheshire Waste Skip Hire has been trading for over 20 years. The company’s management team, Garen and Sue Littler, took over the business in 2003. Since then CWSH has gone from strength to strength, earning a reputation locally and beyond for delivering a responsive, efficient service that goes above and beyond expectations.

As a small company, we can provide a personal service to clients, without endless paperwork or processes to slow down our service. However, we can meet the needs of large and small organisations alike as we have the industry expertise, resources and skilled staff to cope with any size job. We’re proud to count the likes of Chester City Council and The Countess of Chester Hospital among our bigger customers but our small local builders are equally important to us.
